Die Gruppe besteht aus dem Londoner Elektroniker Phil Durrant, dem in Paris lebenden schweizer Saxofonisten Bertrand Denzler und dem Berliner Perkussionisten Burkhard Beins, allesamt langjährige Protagonisten der global vernetzten Experimentalmusik-Szene.

Hélène Breschand und Elliott Sharp begannen im XIII. Arrondissement ein Projekt mit alten und neuen Liedern, wobei sie sich grob an Jane Birkin und Serge Gainsbourg orientierten, die durch andere pataphysische Treibgut-Werke des 20. Jahrhunderts gefiltert wurden, um einen Mix aus Neurotica, Erotica, Noise, Grooves, Virtuosität, Crudity und Spielgeist zu kreieren. Sie begaben sich zum angesehenen Studio Poptones in der Nähe der Bastille, um mit Jean-Charles Versari am Mischpult 11 Songs zu aufzunehmen. Als die Abenddämmerung hereinbrach und sie das Studio verließen, enthüllte sich ihnen der Titel ‚Chansons du Crepuscule‘ (frz. Zwielicht)

In Vertigo Transport erkunden die experimentellen Musiker Marta Zapparoli und Burkhard Beins unbekannte elektroakustische Gebiete voller rhythmischer Details und dunkler Schönheit. Durch die Integration einer Vielzahl von Maschinen interagieren die beiden Musiker in Echtzeit miteinander, aber auch mit ihrer ortsspezifischen Umgebung. Die gegenseitige Einspeisung ihrer einzelnen Signale trägt zur Komplexität ihrer faszinierenden musikalischen Begegnungen bei.

Das MusikAktionsEnsemble KLANK, gegründet 2008, versammelt die ästhetischen Vorgeschichten und die musikalischen Herangehensweisen von vier eigenwilligen Improvisatoren, als da sind: Reinhart Hammerschmidt (auch Kontrabass), Hainer Wörmann (auch Gitarre), Christoph Ogiermann (Komponist, Instrumentalist, auch Violine), Tim Schomacker (Soundperformer und Alltagsschlagzeuger) sowie Markus Markowski (Gitarrist und Elektroniker). In der Auseinandersetzung mit ästhetischen Konzepten und Spielweisen des 20. Jahrhunderts machen sie die Klangerzeugung und performativen Potenziale konzertanter Musik sichtbar, erproben das eigene Instrumentarium, eignen sich nicht-musikalische Gegenstände und Materialien als Instrument an und erkunden in Echtzeit die komplexe und dichte Logik von frei improvisierten Interaktionen.

Blowing minds all over the world since 2004 with hundreds of charming performances and some cult records, JOOKLO DUO (Virginia Genta on reeds, flutes, piano, percussion and David Vanzan on drums) keeps spreading their powerful and uniquely vibrant sound, deeply rooted in free jazz avant-garde but heavily influenced by traditional folk music, and at the same time open to extreme sound experiments. Over the years the perpetual research for new and challenging combinations has led Genta and Vanzan to form a large variety of ensembles and to collaborate with artists as Bill Nace, Chris Corsano, Thurston Moore, Dror Feiler, Dylan Nyoukis, Hartmut Geerken, Makoto Kawabata, Mette Rasmussen and many others. The duo has also been working with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company alongside John Paul Jones and Takehisa Kosugi, performing for “Nearly Ninety” in main theatres in Madrid and London, and has been a long time favourite of emblematic figures such as Henry Rollins, WFMU radio, the Wire, etc…
BRANDON LOPEZ Improviser/Composer Brandon A. Lopez has been deemed the “Ubiquitous Free Improv Bass Ace” by the Village Voice and said to play with a “Bruising Physicality” by the Chicago Reader. He was born and raised in the splendors of Northwestern New Jersey, in the shadow of the (New York) city. It was there that he cultivated a taste for left-of-center music and subsequently, dug graves. He’s had the pleasure of working with many of the world’s luminary, left-of-center musicians and is a frequent collaborator with Weasel Walter, Nate Wooley, Mette Rasmussen, Gerald Cleaver, Peter Evans, Ingrid Laubrock, Dave Rempis, just to name a few. He has toured and played prestigious halls, DIY basements, and festivals all across North America and the European Continent. He currently leads a piano trio dubbed “Mess” with Sam Yulsman and Chris Corsano. He frequently plays solo. He is also the 2018 Artist in Residence at Issue Project Room and a 2018 VAN LIER FELLOW at Roulette, NYC. He attended New England Conservatory.

Virginia Genta and David Vanzan first met Hartmut Geerken in 2007, and they have collaborated in several occasions during the years. Free improvisation that pushes time and space limits way further, in a flow of primitive organic sounds.
Hartmut Geerken: Born in Stuttgart in 1939, Hartmut Geerken is a musician, composer, writer, journalist, filmmaker, actor, mycologist and much more. After a classical music training, Geerken discovers contemporary music while studying with Karlheinz Stockhausen, and during the same period he also develops his love for jazz, which will bring him to collaborations with masters such as The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Don Cherry, John Tchicai, Sunny Murray and to the formation of The Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble. Hartmut is also responsible for having brought Sun Ra and the Arkestra to Cairo in 1972, where he was living at the time. www.hartmutgeerken.de
