Die ungewöhnliche Kombination konnte zum ersten Mal im John-Cage-Haus der Halberstadter Orgelstiftung erprobt werden und führte zu einer Reihe von Aufnahmen: eine davon ist hier zu hören: CROMB

Das Duo-Programm wird ergänzt durch Solo Beiträge, unter anderem Ogiermanns SoloStück: “as to stay”.

MATTIA BONAFINI / BIO

Mattia Bonafini (* 1980 in Legnago – Verona – Italien, lebt und arbeitet in Bremen) studierte Freie Kunst bei Professor Markus Löffler und Andree Koprys. Er studierte elektroakustische Komposition bei Prof. Kilian Schwoon in Bremen, bei Francesco Giomi und Lelio Camilleri in Bologna, bei Andrew Bentley in Helsinki und Instrumentalkomposition bei Carlo De Pirro in Rovigo und Paolo Aralla in Bologna; Bebo Ferra war sein Jazzgitarrenlehrer in Mailand.

Mattia Bonafini arbeitet in den Bereichen Komposition, Improvisation, elektroakustische Musik und Performance. Er erforscht die Kontamination verschiedener musikalischer Genres und kombiniert sie mit anderen Praktiken wie Text und visueller Kunst. Die Kommunikation mit den Interpreten, Musikern und Mitwirkenden ist ein wichtiger Punkt, um speziell zugeschnittene Werke zu schaffen.

Seine Musik wurde in verschiedenen Ländern präsentiert; er arbeitete unter anderem mit C.H. Chik, F. Giomi, M. Guida, S. Miele, C. Ogiermann, EWI Quartet, R. Sbrzesny, S. Stadlmeier (alias EMRGE), V. Vitrenko (Musiker/Komponisten/Darsteller); Pedro Neto (Anthropologe/Dokumentarist); Simone Zoppellaro (Schriftsteller), Luisa Eugeni (Videokünstlerin).

Derzeit lehrt er an der Hochschule für Künste in Bremen. Seit 2018 arbeitet er mit der Projektgruppe Neue Musik und REM in Bremen zusammen; mit Lucas Gerin und Johannes Werner organisiert er die Reihe X-changes zwischen Stuttgart und Bremen.

CHRISTOPH OGIERMANN / BIO

Geboren 1967. Beginnt 1990 auf Anregung von Erwin Koch-Raphael zu komponieren, schreibt seither Musik. Seither Tätigkeit als Rezitator, Sänger, Geiger und Tastenspieler in den Bereichen Freie Improvisation / Konzeptimprovisation und europäische Kunstmusiken. Komponist.

Abschluß des Kompositionsstudiums an der Hochschule für Künste Bremen bei Younghi Pagh-Paan im Winter 1999/2000. Weitere wichtige musikalische und philosophische Studien bei Georges Nicolas Wolff und Nicolas Schalz.

Aufenthalt im Archivio Luigi Nono/Venedig mit Unterstützung des DAAD, Gastdozent für Komposition und Improvisation in Pitea/Schweden. Gastkomponist am Institut für Elektronische Musik und Akustik Graz.und im Studio für Elektronische Musik der Technischen Universität Berlin.Stipendien der Heinrich Stobel Stiftung Freiburg i. Br. und in der Cité des Artes, Paris (Bundesstipendium)

Virginia Genta (amplified saxophones), Brandon Lopez (bass) and David Vanzan (drums) get together as JOOKLO TRIO to deliver some heavy electric jams where free improvisation can take the most dark and frightening shapes through feedbacks, screams and scatterings. A surprising fusion of noise, punk and jazz always on the edge between known and unknown, good and evil, black and white, in and out, up and down…

Blowing minds all over the world since 2004 with hundreds of charming performances and some cult records, JOOKLO DUO (Virginia Genta on reeds, flutes, piano, percussion and David Vanzan on drums) keeps spreading their powerful and uniquely vibrant sound, deeply rooted in free jazz avant-garde but heavily influenced by traditional folk music, and at the same time open to extreme sound experiments. Over the years the perpetual research for new and challenging combinations has led Genta and Vanzan to form a large variety of ensembles and to collaborate with artists as Bill Nace, Chris Corsano, Thurston Moore, Dror Feiler, Dylan Nyoukis, Hartmut Geerken, Makoto Kawabata, Mette Rasmussen and many others. The duo has also been working with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company alongside John Paul Jones and Takehisa Kosugi, performing for “Nearly Ninety” in main theatres in Madrid and London, and has been a long time favourite of emblematic figures such as Henry Rollins, WFMU radio, the Wire, etc…

BRANDON LOPEZ Improviser/Composer Brandon A. Lopez has been deemed the “Ubiquitous Free Improv Bass Ace” by the Village Voice and said to play with a “Bruising Physicality” by the Chicago Reader. He was born and raised in the splendors of Northwestern New Jersey, in the shadow of the (New York) city. It was there that he cultivated a taste for left-of-center music and subsequently, dug graves. He’s had the pleasure of working with many of the world’s luminary, left-of-center musicians and is a frequent collaborator with Weasel Walter, Nate Wooley, Mette Rasmussen, Gerald Cleaver, Peter Evans, Ingrid Laubrock, Dave Rempis, just to name a few. He has toured and played prestigious halls, DIY basements, and festivals all across North America and the European Continent. He currently leads a piano trio dubbed “Mess” with Sam Yulsman and Chris Corsano. He frequently plays solo. He is also the 2018 Artist in Residence at Issue Project Room and a 2018 VAN LIER FELLOW at Roulette, NYC. He attended New England Conservatory.

Virginia Genta and David Vanzan first met Hartmut Geerken in 2007, and they have collaborated in several occasions during the years. Free improvisation that pushes time and space limits way further, in a flow of primitive organic sounds.

Hartmut Geerken:
Born in Stuttgart in 1939, Hartmut Geerken is a musician, composer, writer, journalist, filmmaker, actor, mycologist and much more. After a classical music training, Geerken discovers contemporary music while studying with Karlheinz Stockhausen, and during the same period he also develops his love for jazz, which will bring him to collaborations with masters such as The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Don Cherry, John Tchicai, Sunny Murray and to the formation of The Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble. Hartmut is also responsible for having brought Sun Ra and the Arkestra to Cairo in 1972, where he was living at the time. www.hartmutgeerken.de
